I just wanted to post a quick update letting interested clients know that I recently joined the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). To quote from their website, “EFA members are editors, writers, indexers, proofreaders, researchers, desktop publishers, translators, and others who offer a broad range of skills and specialties.”

Do you produce a web comic? Have you considered having it proofread before having a collection printed as a graphic novel, or even before publishing it on your website? Obviously, comics don’t have as many words per page, so I’m now offering a rate of $0.80/page for graphic novels. This is a basic proofread that considers the fact that the text is already designed as part of the art, so it is primarily aimed at catching spelling and grammar errors. If you wish me to proofread the text before it is added to the art, standard rates for fiction apply. I hope to hear from you, soon!

Do you have copyediting that needs doing? Now’s the time to get in touch with me. I recently turned in a large project for Green Ronin, a book for their Mutants & Masterminds line titled “Mecha & Manga.” That was a fun one, and I now have a whole lot of new anime to watch, thanks to the author. I love working for RPG companies, but I’m always open to learning new topics or expanding old knowledge, so show me something new to edit!

Welcome to Illuminated Editing. I’m currently wrapping up the second pass on a project for Catalyst Game Labs. For you Shadowrun fans, it’s for the upcoming Runners Companion. I should be turning it in tonight, possibly tomorrow, but I think I’ll be done today unless I get highly sidetracked. :) I prefer turning projects in early whenever I can; it’s an excuse to squeeze in a few hours of cross stitch before I get back to work.

Upcoming projects include one for the Mutants & Masterminds line for Green Ronin and probably whatever Dark Quest Games writes for 4E D&D.  I’m mostly done reading the PHB (been reading it in small spurts), but I’m into combat rules, and that’s dry no matter what the system is. I also read the GSL this morning (pre-coffee legalese - oi!), and saved the SRD to my working files. So, I should be good for 4E D&D work.

Finally, it looks like we might be getting a second car in the near future (we’ve got a bit of a queue going, as we’re buying a Smart from someone who is getting a cooler one…), so I will be available for local projects requiring frequent meetings or onsite work. Or, you know, just to run out to the post office.
